A talk by the chronicler Hans-Michael Schulze as part of the ‘Pankow Personalities’ series
Readers of Hans-Michael Schulze’s 2001 book *In den Wohnzimmern der Macht* may recall Ewald Beumer (1886–1955), the mysterious owner of a stately villa on Majakowskiring?
At the time, his whereabouts after 1945 remained a mystery.
Now, 20 years after the book’s publication, eyewitnesses have come forward—revealing a fascinating yet dubious life story:
Beumer lost his villa as a result of a ruling in the infamous Waldheim trials of 1950. Present at the trials: Hilde Benjamin, Vice President of the Supreme Court (1949–1953) and later Minister of Justice (1953–1967) of the GDR. At the time, she lived directly across from Beumer’s villa.
Come to the lecture and learn the whole story!
