On the 100th anniversary of Hermann Kant's birth
Over the course of nine months in 2007, journalist and author Irmtraud Gutschke conducted in-depth interviews with Hermann Kant for the book *Die Sache und die Sachen*.
The two remained in close contact until his death on August 16, 2016. Their conversations centered on his writing, his life experiences, and above all, his relationship to the now-defunct state of the GDR.
Kant became world-famous for novels such as “Die Aula,” “Das Impressum,” and “Der Aufenthalt.” And yet, to this day, the word “controversial” still clings to him.
On the occasion of Hermann Kant’s 100th birthday, Irmtraud Gutschke speaks with Wolfgang Hübner about one of the most successful authors of the GDR.
