This year’s HEIMAT_KUNST festival week at the Theater im Palais Berlin, running from June 10, will also revolve around the annual theme “The Power of Women.” The festival kicks off with a gala evening featuring the puppet theater production *Die Katze von Kampen* (a guest performance by the Cammerspiele Leipzig).

In it, the two actresses and puppeteers Bianka Drozdik and Eva Vinke bring the Berlin-based polymath and pioneer of modern dance, Valeska Gert, back to life.

Valeska Gert became famous for her eccentric, grotesque dance performances, her unconventional appearance, and her nonconformist lifestyle.

She founded several nightclubs that provided a stage for up-and-coming artists—such as in Kampen on Sylt—and is still regarded today as the “forefather of punk.”

In addition to the puppet theater piece dedicated to the “Goddess of the Grotesque,” you can also look forward to the opening of the new exhibition in cooperation with the Paul Klinger Artists’ Social Fund at the GALA opening of HEIMAT_KUNST.

Artistic Director Alina Gause and ensemble member Carl Martin Spengler will guide you through the evening.
