Walter Moos was born in Berlin in September 1909 and spent his entire life in what is now the Friedrichshain district. His life story is closely intertwined with the history of Berlin and Germany.
As a contemporary witness, he lived through four political systems—the German Empire in its final years, the Weimar Republic, the Nazi era, and the GDR—as well as, ultimately, German reunification and life in a democratic society.
Selected texts provide insights into his life and work while also offering a glimpse into Berlin’s turbulent history from a very personal perspective.
