Songs by Bartók, Liszt, Debussy, and Kodály

With a diverse song program, mezzo-soprano Corinna Scheurle spans the Hungarian, German, and French repertoires, bringing to life the complex cultural connections between these traditions.

The program begins with works by Béla Bartók, followed by settings of Goethe and Heine by the Francophile, Hungarian-born Franz Liszt. This is followed by songs by Claude Debussy — one of Bartók's most important artistic inspirations, alongside folk music.

The program concludes with music by Zoltán Kodály, the second great Hungarian folk song collector.

Thomas Guggeis, who will also conduct the Boulez Ensemble's season-ending concert a few days later, will accompany the program on piano.
