Theatertreffen 2026

The 3sat Prize for artistic innovation is awarded as part of the Theatertreffen and goes this year to Katharina Bach for her performance in the production *Wallenstein: A Seven-Course Feast*, directed by Jan-Christoph Gockel at the Münchner Kammerspiele.

Since 1997, 3sat has awarded the 3sat Prize for Artistic Innovation annually as part of the Theatertreffen to one or more artists from among the invited ensembles. In 2026, actress Katharina Bach will be honored for her performance in the production *Wallenstein: A Feast of Carnage in Seven Courses* at the Münchner Kammerspiele.

The jury’s statement reads:

“Jan-Christoph Gockel’s double exposure of Wallenstein focuses on the mechanics of war and the anatomy of the warrior. That he must armor himself not only externally but also emotionally and mentally is demonstrated by Katharina Bach as Wallenstein’s Field Marshal Illo and in a brilliant final monologue, in which she sheds all this armor in a way that makes the audience suffer along with her. In a muscle suit and with a shaved head, Bach is at first barely recognizable—and yet very much so, because through all the posturing of this “man of war,” loyal to the point of dullness, she allows his deep vulnerability to shine through. Behind his/her/our determination, fear blazes. This is stunning acting and timelessly true!”

In 2026, the jury consists of Nora Hertlein-Hull (Director of Theatertreffen), Wolfgang Horn (Editor in the ZDF Music and Theater Department), and Sabine Leucht (Theater critic and member of the Theatertreffen jury). The 3sat Prize is endowed with 10,000 euros.
