To mark the revival of Les Contes d’Hoffmann in March, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden is delighted to present the first collaborative event between the Friends of the Berliner Ensemble and its supporters' association.
E.T.A. Hoffmann's texts deliriously oscillate between dream and reality—and continue to shape posterity. A true polymath, this adopted Berliner wrote, painted, and composed.
In a tribute to his 250th birthday, actor Paul Herwig of the Berliner Ensemble and the Tilia Quartet of the Staatskapelle Berlin explore his relationship with music: texts by and about Hoffmann alternate with music that we perceive through the poet's ears.
