“Vessel & Voyager” is the new exhibition project of the JUNGE AKADEMIE, the international and interdisciplinary scholarship program of the Academy of Arts.
Twenty-five artists present new works developed during their residencies at the Academy building on Hanseatenweg.
They explore the possibilities for artistic creation and action in times of multifaceted and escalating crises, engaging with the themes of loss and memory, body and healing, protection and community.
The exhibition features photographs, prints, collages, video works, spatial and sound installations, sculptures, drawings, and assemblages.
- A symposium on April 17 will discuss questions of art, ecology, and gender, relating to the exhibited works
- Performances, concerts, and readings are scheduled for April 25
The title “Vessel & Voyager” alludes to the prominent motifs of vessels (Vessel) and travelers (Voyager) in artistic, cultural, and spiritual contexts. The exhibition utilizes “Vessel” in its meaning as a container that preserves, transmits, and continually transforms various narratives, messages, and voices. “Voyager,” in turn, represents travelers who forge connections between places, generations, and times. In relation to these motifs, the works combine to form a contemporary exhibition that re-examines questions of tradition, responsibility, and vulnerability.
Vessel, in its sense, represents a traveler who creates connections between places, generations, and times.
