An icon of Weimar culture and one of the most important operas of the twentieth century, Alban Berg’s Wozzeck premiered on December 14, 1925, exactly a century ago.
On the last weekend in November, the State Opera and Humboldt University are hosting a symposium entitled ‘100 Years of Wozzeck’. In lectures and discussions, academics and experts will shed light on the literary, musical and historical facets of this key work of modernism.
To mark this centennial, scholars will explore the story behind the opera, the libretto, and the music and highlight in lectures and podium discussions various aspects and facets of this extraordinary work, which returns to the stage of the Staatsoper to mark the centennial with the production directed by Andrea Breth and conducted by Christian Thielemann.
