They were two giants: Anton Bruckner and Gustav Mahler. Both are among the most important composers of the late Romantic period, highly idiosyncratic, yet so similar in many ways. What could be more appropriate than dedicating a concert to these two masters?
The young Austrian organist Lukas Hasler is a wanderer between worlds, living in Vienna and Los Angeles, and has long been a guest on international concert stages. For his debut in the Philharmonic's organ series, he is joined by fellow countryman Alois Mühlbacher, one of the most interesting countertenors of our time.
In addition to works by Bruckner and Mahler, excerpts from the Second Symphony by Mahler's French contemporary, Louis Vierne, will also be heard.
