Pop-up exhibition highlights 100 years of cycling history

With the arrival of the first warm days, the cycling season is kicking off again in Berlin. In recent years, a diverse urban cycling culture has developed around the bicycle in the capital as well, bringing together sports, mobility, and cycling communities.

Against this backdrop, the “Museum of Cycling” will focus on the history and present of cycling in mid-May.

The temporary exhibition will be on view from May 15 to 17 at Torstraße 66 in Berlin-Mitte and marks the 100th anniversary of the German cycling brand Gonso as an opportunity to bring together various facets of cycling culture.

The exhibition features historical artifacts, photographs, and developments spanning a century of cycling history—from the early years of road racing to current topics such as functional cycling apparel, urban mobility, and today’s cycling community.

The focus is less on the brand itself and more on the cultural evolution of the bicycle and its role in everyday urban life.

The weekend will be accompanied by several public events. Among other things, plans include a live recording of the cycling podcast “Besenwagen,” the premiere of a short film marking the anniversary, and a group road bike ride through Berlin and Brandenburg on Saturday. The ride is suitable for riders of all skill levels and starts right at the exhibition.
