How is the experience of migration connected to furniture, and how does interior design relate to settling into a new life? A conversation with artist Ahu Dural and photographer and writer Asimina Paradissa.

In her furniture sculptures, Ahu Dural explores her mother’s migration history and her own upbringing in Berlin-Siemensstadt. In the late 1960s, Asimina Paradissa lived as a migrant worker in the women’s dormitory of the Olympia company in Wilhelmshaven. There, she photographed her immediate living environment.

This edition of the Story Salon focuses on living conditions of the past and on cherished objects that were brought along or acquired after migration. Visitors are invited to bring their own mementos.

  • With: Ahu Dural (artist) | Asimina Paradissa (photographer and writer)
  • Moderator: Prof. Dr. Burcu Dogramaci (guest curator of the exhibition “Tapetenwechsel”)

Note: Limited seating.

Meeting point: Schlütersaal (1st floor)

The Migration Storytelling Salon

With the “Migration Storytelling Salon,” the Stadtmuseum Berlin offers a quarterly series of events. In these sessions, participants from migrant and diaspora communities share their stories of migration and resistance. In the spirit of storytelling and oral history, the focus is on sharing everyday stories from the perspective of migration.

The setting is informal: Participants exchange experiences and present photo albums, music, or videos that accompany their stories. Visitors are invited to bring their own objects, photos, or documents.
