Guided tour for adults

For several years now, sheep have been grazing in the meadows in the northern part of the palace gardens. On this guided tour led by two experts, visitors will learn interesting facts about the animals, their species-appropriate care, and their role in landscape conservation.

On the way to the flock, Head Gardener Andrea Badouin (SPSG) discusses the maintenance of the meadows and lawns and the grazing concept that underpins sheep management in the palace gardens.

Shepherdess Hannah Becker introduces the animals and describes working with them: Why are sheep considered “biodiversity taxis”? How can grazing in urban areas be successful? What is the purpose of herding dogs, and what can they do? How do sheep, dogs, and humans communicate with one another? How is wool harvested, and what happens to it? At the end, guests will have the opportunity to walk among the flock and interact with the animals themselves.

The program lasts about one and a half to two hours and is intended for adults. For families with children, the “Queens of the Meadows” event is offered at 11 a.m.

Please note that parking is limited in the area around the palace gardens. We recommend traveling by public transportation.
