Fra Filippo Lippi's "Adoration in the Forest"

The painting “Mary Adoring the Child – The Adoration in the Woods” by Fra Filippo Lippi is one of the outstanding masterpieces in the Gemäldegalerie.

The painting was created around 1459 on commission from the Medici family in Florence. It came to Berlin via the Solly Collection and has been part of the permanent exhibition since the museum’s founding in 1830.

Since April, this significant panel painting has been undergoing art-historical analysis and restoration as part of a two-year research project.

The guided tour offers an exclusive glimpse into the ongoing work and provides an opportunity to get up close to the object and speak with the restorer, Anja Wolf.
