Book Presentation
Is the unknown merely a word? A blind spot? Something we cannot see? At times it appears as a threat, at others as a source of fascination, even as a prerequisite for literature. Should its mystery and allure be preserved, or do we want dragging it into the glaring spotlight of belief in progress and research trips?
In essays, poetry and fiction, 21 members of the Akademie der Künste explore the concept of the unknown. The results are an expression of introspection, speculation or reflection on probing, circling and discovering. Thomas Lehr, Teresa Präauer and Kathrin Röggla join the editors of the volume, Nathalie Mälzer and Cécile Wajsbrot, in a discussion exploring the Archives, the utopian potential of the unknown, and the leap into distant times and spaces – or into the shadowy depths of the self.
