Gob Squad | Hülya Karci

Hülya Karci has been directing the MINA theatre group for 10 years, which now also presents its projects at HAU Hebbel am Ufer. In this input, she provides insights into the history of theatre in Berlin in the 1970s and 1980s with the “Türkisches Ensemble” at the Schaubühne am Halleschen Ufer, the Tiyatrom and the Diyalog Festival, as well as the Rotes Haus, the famous “Wonaym” at Stresemann Straße 30, directly opposite today's HAU1.

A lively cartography of Kreuzberg and the surroundings of HAU Hebbel am Ufer emerges, and Karci draws lines to the present day with her work with the MINA theatre group.

The artist collective Gob Squad has developed three major neighbourhood projects at HAU Hebbel am Ufer in recent years: “MonuMoments Mehringplatz”, “Handle with Care” and “Dancing with our Neighbours”. Central to these works are the sharing of authorship with the participants, as well as questions of participation, empathy and responsibility. The collective worked closely with the outreach programme “HAU to connect” on these projects.

Berit Stumpf from Gob Squad provides insight into these processes and experiences together wth Lamisha Rahman und Ayah Al-Ghaily.In the subsequent discussion with Dr. Azadeh Sharifi, Stella Konstantinou (HAU to connect) and participating neighbours, Hülya Karci and Gob Squad discuss connections, continuities and breaks, as well as the role of areas of work such as outreach.
