Commemorating the Victims of the Extermination of "Life Unworthy of Life"

The occasion for this quiet memorial service is the restoration of the memorial steles, which was made possible with financial support from the FDP parliamentary group in Marzahn-Hellersdorf.

The memorial honors the more than 2,000 psychiatric patients who fell victim to the Nazi “euthanasia” program at Wuhlgarten.

Their fate continues to serve as a reminder to us today to respect the dignity of every human being and to resolutely oppose exclusion, discrimination, and ideologies that dehumanize people.

Following the commemoration, a festive concert featuring Stefan Kircheis (organ) and Andreas Nicolin (flute) will take place at 5:00 p.m. in the hospital chapel.

The program features works by:

• George Frideric Handel
• Georg Philipp Telemann

Stefan Kircheis studied organ, piano, and conducting in Leipzig, Berlin, and Halle.

The winner of the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition has been active for many years as an organist, conductor, and lecturer, and has served as cantor of the Evangelical Parish of Berlin-Kaulsdorf since 2012.

Andreas Nicolin earned his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Munich and holds a senior position in the federal government.

At the same time, he has been deeply involved in music for many years.

After studying under Prof. Christina Fassbender at the Berlin University of the Arts, he has performed regularly as a flutist with Berlin orchestras and chamber ensembles.

The combination of quiet remembrance and music creates a dignified setting to honor the victims and to stand as a symbol of humanity, responsibility, and a vibrant culture of remembrance.
