Reading with author Susanne Schädlich

Between 1939 and 1945, Los Angeles became a place of exile for German-Jewish theater greats such as Leopold Jessner and his stars. Often anonymous in America and at a linguistic disadvantage, they came together at the “Jewish Club of 1933.”

Susanne Schädlich sheds light on this little-known chapter of German cultural history and brings Jessner and his companions back to the stage.
