The exhibition "Echohaus – 30 Years of Haus Schwarzenberg" offers an exciting accompanying program: a reading by Norman Ohler, a film screening with Beate Kunath, and a guided tour with curator Annika Hirsekorn.
Wednesday, October 15, 2025, 8 p.m. at Neurotitan: Norman Ohler reads from "MITTE"
- Moderated by Annika Hirsekorn
- Admission: €5-8 at the door starting at 7 p.m.
The exhibition "Echohaus – 30 Years of Haus Schwarzenberg" at Neurotitan is dedicated to the anniversary of the independent cultural center in Berlin-Mitte. It brings together artistic and sonic traces that have been interwoven with its history since the 1990s. As a literary echo, passages from Norman Ohler's novel "MITTE" are also included in the show. On October 15, 2025, Norman Ohler will personally read from his work at Neurotitan.
Norman Ohler is a multi-award-winning author whose books have been published in over 35 languages, inspired documentaries, and have been discussed in international podcasts such as Dan Snow's History Hit. His most recent work, The Magic Mountain, was published by Diogenes in fall 2024, and he is currently working on Stoned Sapiens, a new history of humanity.
Thursday, October 16, 2025, 7 p.m. at Kino Central: Film Screening
- Farewell and Arrival – The Working Library of Stefan and Inge Heym with Director Beate Kunath
- West Germany 2021, 104 min, Director: Beate Kunath
Filmmaker and video artist Beate Kunath complements the exhibition's accompanying program with a screening of her documentary about Stefan and Inge Heym, which also offers insights into their literary work. Heym's novel, Schwarzenberg, also inspired the Haus Schwarzenberg, founded in 1995, and the Schwarzenberg Association. Following the screening at Kino Central, a discussion with the director will take place.
Almost two decades after Stefan Heym's death, his wife Inge Heym donated the author's working library, which had grown over the years and contained around 2,500 volumes, to his hometown of Chemnitz. Filmmaker Beate Kunath captured this process on camera, creating a sensitive double portrait that simultaneously offers insights into Heym's life and work – including his novel Schwarzenberg, which was first published in West Germany in 1984 and was not permitted to be published in East Germany until six years later.
