mit dem Konzerthausorchester Berlin und dem Trickster Orchestra

In search of answers, they begin with the utopia of a transtraditional symphony orchestra in the opening concert of their festival "FROM THE BEGINNING."

"How to find the new "we" in the old?" (Seda Keskinkılıç, libretto for "Amphiphilia")

In Mahler's Symphony No. 4, the Konzerthaus Orchestra and Jonathan Nott leave the "worldly hustle and bustle" behind and open up a paradisiacal space. In "Heaven Full of Violins," they then join the Trickster Orchestra, The Present, and members of other independent ensembles for "Amphiphile."

Just as amphiphilic substances dissolve in water and fat, the boundaries of traditions and musical languages blur: string, woodwind, and brass instruments, as well as kanun, koto, sheng, and nay, find a new common musical language through composed and improvised paths.

With her libretto, developed from conversations and encounters, Seda Keskinkılıç poses the question: What stories become audible when the diverse voices of a "new we" resonate alongside each other, both powerful and vulnerable?

  • Gustav Mahler - Symphony No. 4 in G major for Orchestra and Soprano
  • Intermission
  • Cymin Samawatie/Ketan Bhatti - "Amphiphilia" for transtraditional orchestra (Libretto: Seda Keskinkılıç)
