To mark the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law, the Art Council of the German Bundestag has invited nineteen artists to explore the fundamental rights.
Another artist was commissioned to create a twentieth contribution to the project, in which over the course of a year, creative interpretations of the terms freedom and dignity were developed with children and young adults. In this way, the people also became part of the exhibition – represented by the workshop participants, who have each given us a small work of art to display.
The artists involved:
- Tuli Mekondjo (Article 1 of the Basic Law)
- Adi Hoesle (Article 2 of the Basic Law)
- Monica Bonvicini (Article 3 of the Basic Law)
- Ilit Azoulay (Article 4 of the Basic Law)
- Kubra Khademi (Article 5 of the Basic Law)
- Małgorzata Mirga-Tas (Article 6 of the Basic Law)
- Tobias Zielony (Article 7 of the Basic Law)
- Harald Hauswald (Article 8 of the Basic Law)
- Annette Kelm (Article 9 of the Basic Law)
- Via Lewandowsky (Article 10 of the Basic Law)
- Said Baalbaki (Article 11 of the Basic Law)
- Rémy Markowitsch (Article 12 of the Basic Law)
- Uli Aigner (Article 13 of the Basic Law)
- Hans Haacke (Article 14 of the Basic Law)
- Fatoş İrwen (Article 15 of the Basic Law)
- Guillaume Bruère (Article 16a of the Basic Law)
- Thomas Locher (Article 17 of the Basic Law)
- Marc Jung (Article 18 of the Basic Law)
- Boris Mikhailov (Article 19 of the Basic Law)
- Barbara Wrede (workshop project) and 1572 participants in her project
The artists involved represent an enormous breadth of contemporary art and thus a wide variety of access points and means of starting a dialogue about the Basic Law. A universe full of possibilities has been created, a space full of stories and ways of discovering these and comparing them with individual experiences. It is an exhibition about US: who we are and want to be, today and in the future.
