How fibers become clothing: At the museum village, we demonstrate how clothing is made from natural raw materials using medieval methods.

From the wool of freshly shorn sheep to the finished product, you can follow along on this day to see how clothing was made in the Middle Ages. Raw wool becomes thread, thread becomes fabric or rope, and fabric becomes tunics, dresses, and headwear. At a hands-on station, people of all ages can try their hand at working with flax, hemp, and wool on looms. And in a fashion show, they’ll learn about medieval clothing and trends.

Renowned textile archaeologist Dr. Katrin Kania will showcase her detailed work with historical fibers, offering visitors fascinating insights into an ancient craft. The accompanying program for the whole family features fairy tales with the juggler Astor Ytellar.

At the photo station, children and adults can also slip into medieval garb for a souvenir photo.
