During World War II, Lufthansa benefited significantly from the use of forced labor in its armaments and war-repair workshops. Top Lufthansa officials, such as its CEO Erhard Milch, had already been working closely with the Nazis before 1933. Milch later became State Secretary under Hermann Göring.
After World War II, the company struggled for decades to come to terms with its own history and take responsibility for the crimes of World War II. In this regard, the company is not alone in the German business world.
Together with two renowned experts on Lufthansa history, Lutz Budrass and Manfred Grieger, as well as corporate historian Roman Köster, we will discuss Lufthansa during the period from 1933 to 1945 and how the company dealt with its historically burdened legacy beginning in 1954.
