His now-forgotten Hamburg contemporary Knut Lambo also set Gellert's odes to music, as did Johann Friedrich Doles, Thomaskantor in Leipzig, or the Swiss pastor, composer and choirmaster Johannes Schmidlin. In 1803 Ludwig van Beethoven, whose 250th birthday was celebrated in 2020, composed his Six Songs by Gellert, op. 48, which form the conclusion of this musical journey. The texts of the songs by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach selected for this program correspond to those also used by Ludwig van Beethoven for his song cycle.

The successor to Thomaskantor Doles, Gotthold Schwarz - bass, will be accompanied by Michael Schönheit,
