Anniversary on April 14, 2023
To mark the 70th anniversary of the opening of the Berlin Marienfelde emergency reception camp on April 14, 1953, the Berlin Wall Foundation is planning a special program.
In addition to an anniversary event with guests from politics, academia, and society, an academic conference is planned for April 12-14, 2023, entitled "Places of Arrival. Camps, Shelters and Settlements for Refugees in Europe since 1945. Architectures, Change, Memory" is planned.
The focus will be on historical and contemporary places of refugee accommodation, their emergence, development and social memory. The call for papers is available online.
The conference will be held in cooperation with the Department of Urban Historic Preservation and Urban Heritage at the Technical University of Berlin.
