They are considered one of the most influential indie rock bands of our time: The Kooks. They have been shaping the British music scene for almost 20 years – and have lost none of their appeal to this day.
The Beginnings of The Kooks
Formed in the early 2000s in picturesque Brighton, singer Luke Pritchard and guitarist Hugh Harris connected while studying music. Within a few months, the band had written over 100 songs – inspired by a David Bowie song, they named themselves The Kooks ("the eccentrics, the crazy ones"). After just three months of being a band, they signed with Virgin Records.
Their debut album, "Inside In / Inside Out," was released in 2006. It topped the charts with hits like "Naïve" and "She Moves in Her Own Way," reaching five-times platinum status. With their follow-up, "Konk" (2008), they stormed straight to the top of the UK charts and definitively established themselves as a major player in indie rock. Further successes followed: "Junk Of The Heart" (2011), the experimental "Listen" (2014), a return to their roots with "Let's Go Sunshine" (2018), and the Berlin-based "10 Tracks To Echo In The Dark" (2022). Their seventh studio album, "Never/Know," was finally released in spring 2025.
The Kooks – known for their energetic live concerts
From small bars in Brighton to festival headline slots and tours with legends like the Rolling Stones, The Kooks have always been a live band. Their blend of timeless indie sound, captivating hits, and the special chemistry between Pritchard and Harris makes their shows a highlight in the indie world to this day.
