"What if…" interweaves feminist discourses from the 20th century to the present day—inspired, among others, by Rebecca Solnit's "Men Explain Things to Me" and Simone de Beauvoir's "The Second Sex"—into an artistic inventory. Silke Gruber's texts provide a unifying thread, creating an intimate space where the three artists' personal experiences are woven into a shared narrative.
Choreographers Emmanuelle Vinh and Clarissa Omiecienski present the powerful dance performance "What if…", which explores the potential of the female body beyond patriarchal constraints. Starting with the ongoing issue of gender-based violence, the piece focuses on the question of male power and its persistence.
The performance paints a powerful picture of the tension between oppression and resistance, while simultaneously making a passionate plea for emancipation. Awarded by Innsbruck critic Christine Frei as the most impressive performance of the past year, "What if …" invites the audience on an intense, touching journey and encourages them to continue to critically question social structures and to actively participate in shaping change.
