On four floors, 40 artists living in Berlin, some of whom have decisively shaped the photographic image culture in Berlin for many decades, will be brought into relationship with each other.
TOUCH, the leitmotif of this exhibition, expresses the desire for connection or continuation of contact - keep in touch! But the motif of contact also reaches further: our bodies and our experience have changed, not least through the experience of a global pandemic of danger. We suffer from the deprivation of stimulation associated with touch.
But how can we allow ourselves to be touched by images? What are the mechanisms of this ever-magical moment? In a montage of very different photographic or photography-based images, the exhibition Touch. Politics of Touch explores these questions.
On the one hand, it reveals points of connection and contact. On the other hand, it stands up for the singularity of the individual work and its mechanisms of touch and distance, of contact and distance. Thus, in the context of EMOP Berlin 2023, Touch raises awareness of photography as the decisive visual medium of our present and its significance in artistic contexts.
