The Hahneberg Nature Conservation Station is delighted to welcome you back this year to a very special event at the station.

On Sunday, July 12, 2026, the focus will be on sheep and their diverse importance for nature, landscape conservation, and traditional crafts.

Look forward to a variety of exciting activities:

A special highlight is the herding dog demonstration, which impressively shows how specially trained dogs work together with their shepherds to guide a flock of sheep in a precise and stress-free manner. You’ll be able to experience up close just how precisely communication between humans, dogs, and animals works, and what an important role herding dogs still play in sheep farming today.

You can also look forward to a demonstration shearing, where the sheep are expertly shorn of their wool, as well as interesting information and hands-on activities related to wool processing.

Those who appreciate natural products can also purchase various woolen items on-site—perhaps not exactly for summer temperatures, but certainly a lovely gift idea for the colder months.

Program:

  • 2:00 PM Start
  • 2:30–3:00 PM Herding dog demonstration
  • 3:30–4:00 p.m. Demonstration shearing
  • 5:00–6:00 p.m. Tour on landscape conservation

Refreshments will of course be provided: In addition to refreshing drinks, there will be delicious crepes and galettes in a variety of flavors.

The Sheep Day will be accompanied by music from the duo Amy and Hans Bilger.

The event is designed to be especially family-friendly. Children can look forward to a small scavenger hunt as well as numerous exciting hands-on activities. Through play, there is much to discover about sheep, their way of life, and their importance to our cultural landscape.

The Nature Conservation Station looks forward to your visit and an eventful day filled with many interesting insights into the world of sheep!

Admission is by donation. With your voluntary donation, you support the work of the Nature Conservation Station and help ensure that nature experiences and environmental education programs for all ages can continue in the future.
