THE POSSIBILITY OF IRREASONABILITY

‘The corridors of what can be said, explored and represented must be widened rather than narrowed. It is time to hold up the sausage to society,’ says Jan Böhmermann, describing the guiding principle of the three-week residency at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW), which was donated by the USA in 1957 as a congress hall.


‘The political, social and legal issues of the present must be addressed where they are negotiated,’ says Jan Böhmermann, explaining the choice of location for the project in the heart of Berlin – right next to the Chancellery, the Reichstag and Bellevue Palace: ‘This building – a gift from the USA to West Berlin and the democratic Federal Republic of Germany – is a time capsule and reminds us never to let the beacon of freedom go out.’

With Die Möglichkeit der Unvernunft (The Possibility of Irrationality), Jan Böhmermann & Gruppe Royale are opening the ‘Schwangere Auster’ for their third and most extensive exhibition to date. For three weeks, they will also be presenting a diverse programme of events with special concerts, shows, TV recordings, performances, film screenings and discussion panels together with artist friends, musicians and other guests.
