The Molotovs consist of siblings Mathew and Issey Cartlidge and drummer Will Fooks.
Singer Mathew and bassist Issey grew up in the heart of London’s vibrant underground scene. They discovered their love for British mod culture and rock music of the ’60s and ’70s early on through their parents’ record collection.
While the two had played in various bands during their youth, it wasn’t until the lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic that they got the idea to make music together.
They played wherever they could: from birthday parties to busking on the streets to weddings.
And they slowly but steadily built a reputation as a fantastic live band.
Staying true to their punk and DIY ethos, they brought old-school rock into the 21st century and suddenly found themselves with famous fans like Blondie, The Libertines, and The Sex Pistols.
In early 2025, they released their first single, “More More More,” which immediately reached the top of the UK physical charts.
Their first headlining tour sold out immediately—partly because they had already won over the hearts of new fans while opening for big names like Green Day, Adam Ant, and Palaye Royale. And their great idol Paul Weller—the “Godfather of Britpop”—gave his blessing.
In January of this year, they released their highly anticipated debut album “Wasted on Youth” via Marshall Records.
Their life-affirming sound, blending new wave, punk, indie, and garage rock, resonated with many and immediately reached number three on the album charts.
Anyone who can hold their own playing street music in empty parks will thrill audiences anywhere: This is certainly true of The Molotovs, who have worked hard to earn their reputation as one of the best British live bands around today.
Whether on an arena tour with The Sex Pistols or at their own shows: their punk attitude ensures massive, explosive concerts.
And in the summer of 2026, they’ll prove it at their concert at the Kantine am Berghain.
