Democracy festival from 24 to 26 May 2024
Democracy festival in Berlin's government district. On 23 May 2024, our German Basic Law will be 75 years old. It is the foundation of our coexistence in a free and democratic constitutional state. After the peaceful revolution in the GDR in 1989, the Basic Law became the common constitution of a reunified Germany on 3 October 1990.

Key Visual, Deutschland feiert 75 Jahre Grundgesetz
75 years of the Basic Law - we want to celebrate this anniversary together.
The celebrations will begin on 23 May 2024 with a state ceremony in Berlin.
This will be followed by a democracy festival from 24 to 26 May 2024, to which all citizens are cordially invited.
A colourful and varied programme is planned around the Federal Chancellery and Paul Löbe House of the German Bundestag, in which the federal states and many civil society organisations will also participate.
The Federal President, Bundestag and Bundesrat, the Federal Chancellor, the Federal Constitutional Court and the federal ministries will also be taking part.
Together, everyone is looking forward to engaging in dialogue with citizens in the various formats.
The closing event on Sunday evening will be the festive highlight of the Democracy Festival.
