Merry Christmas
Film scholar Irina Vogt presents the touching Christmas story about a small peace in a great war based on a true story. During World War I, French, British and German soldiers fought a bitter trench warfare on the Western Front.
At Christmas 1914, a German tenor sings “Silent Night” and enters no man's land singing. Commanders decide on an (unofficial) Christmas truce and fraternization breaks out between the soldiers.
But this never-scheduled Christmas truce calls the military commands of all three armies into action.
Director Christian Carion was so fascinated by the true story that he turned it into a film about humanity and against war. A convincing international cast of actors with Daniel Brühl, Dany Boon and Diane Kruger among others contributes a lot to this.
