The Berlinische Galerie is celebrating its 50th anniversary from June to September 2025 with art, performances and a garden installation. Under the title BG Summer Festival, the newly created BG Garden on the museum's forecourt will be transformed into a lively art and meeting place from June to September 2025.
With a diverse programme of readings, performances, concerts, culinary interventions, talks and a summer festival with free admission for all, the Berlinische Galerie invites visitors and neighbours to rediscover art from Berlin on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.
‘We want to use the summer to open up the Berlinische Galerie even more to the outside world with various artistic interventions that invite people to encounter art and build a bridge to the urban space,’ says Dr. Thomas Köhler, director of the Berlinische Galerie. ‘The BG Summer Festival offers an opportunity to celebrate together the diversity of Berlin's art scene, which the Berlinische Galerie represents like no other institution.’

Long Night of the Museums
50 years of the Berlinische Galerie
The Berlinische Galerie is one of the capital's youngest museums and has a distinctive profile:It collects, preserves, exhibits and researches modern and contemporary art created in Berlin – with a local focus and international aspirations. Fine art, graphic art, photography and architecture from 1870 to the present day are represented in the interdisciplinary collection, which also includes artists' archives for documentary material.
This sets it apart from other exhibition venues in the capital. Another special feature is that, from the very beginning, the Berlinische Galerie has been committed to rediscovering artists who have been unjustly forgotten.
For its anniversary year, the collection has been redesigned and supplemented with numerous works that have not yet been shown. The temporary exhibitions are also increasingly dedicated to rediscovered artists.
