The Little Tree

Grandfather has planted a little tree and says to it: “Grow, my little tree, grow and become big!” And how that little tree grows!

When Grandad wants to bring it into the house at Christmas, he starts sawing. And he saws and saws and saws but he can’t saw it through.

Then Grandmother comes along to help. And they saw and saw and saw.

Then the little grandchild comes along.

Then the little dog.

Then the kitten.

Then the little mouse comes out of its little house and calls out:

“Why are you cutting down the little tree?

Why should it suffer?

Why not have a party in front of the house?”

Everyone thinks that’s marvellous. And so they’ve been doing it every year ever since.
