Photographic works bring together personal perspectives on the subject of breast cancer
The ten photographs presented in ‘One in Eight’ bring some of these experiences to light. They reflect the diverse realities of living with the disease, supporting someone affected by it, and dealing with the impact on families and relationships.
Through documentary photography, portraiture and conceptual imagery, the artists explore moments of diagnosis, treatment and physical changes, as well as experiences of care, intimacy, grief, resilience and everyday life. Together, the works reveal experiences that are individual yet interconnected, and create space for stories that all too often remain unseen.
The works were selected from more than 1,000 submissions as part of a global open call initiated by Fotografiska and the Estée Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Campaign. They are by photographers and artists from all over the world. The open call was aimed at people directly or indirectly affected by breast cancer.
Fotografiska curated the project in collaboration with The Estée Lauder Companies, *Vogue Deutschland*, the ‘Buusenkollektiv’, the Swedish Breast Cancer Association, Austrian Cancer Aid, ‘Look Good Feel Better Switzerland’ and the artists.
All the artworks on display can be purchased as charity posters via the Fotografiska online shop. With every print, art makes a difference: the net proceeds from sales will be donated to local breast cancer charities.
The installation marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month is on display on the 3rd floor of Fotografiska Berlin until 31 October 2026.
