INK&ART

The basic idea behind INK&ART is simple: Berlin’s creative subcultures often exist side by side, but rarely with one another. Visual art takes place in galleries, body art in studios, electronic music in clubs. INK&ART breaks down this separation and creates a shared space – a vernissage in the traditional sense, but with the character of a lively, accessible meeting place.

The format is deliberately designed as a cross-promotion platform: every participating artist brings their own community with them. The reach and networks of all participants combine to form a shared audience that would otherwise not come together in this way. This creates visibility for perspectives that often find little space in the mainstream cultural scene, particularly in the fields of body art and Berlin’s subculture scene, which forms an integral, internationally recognised part of the city’s identity yet is rarely represented in institutional formats.

INK&ART sees itself as a pilot project with the aim of establishing itself as a recurring event in Berlin’s cultural calendar. It is aimed at a broad, curious audience – people who do not merely view art, but wish to experience it and participate in it. Free admission is no coincidence, but a statement of principle: culture should be accessible, without barriers. Anyone deciding on the spot to have a tattoo, piercing or tooth jewellery treatment speaks directly with the artists; terms are agreed individually. The visit itself, as well as the networking, is free and will remain free.
