Works by Gordon Jacob, Claude Debussy, Niccolò Paganini and George Gershwin
Pianist Nala Baik (South Korea) and tuba player Mateusz Dud (Silesia, Poland) explore the diverse timbres of the piano and tuba together as TUPIANO.
Different cultural backgrounds and musical influences combine to create an expressive musical language. They invite the audience to experience the sonic richness of both instruments – in ensemble playing as well as in solo moments.
“Tuba Suite” - Gordon Jacob (1895–1984)
Gordon Jacob was a British composer and teacher, known for his wind instrument works. He once wrote: “The tuba can be lyrical, expressive, and surprisingly agile – it deserves more solo music.” This original work for tuba showcases precisely these qualities and the instrument's diverse timbres.
“Estampes” - Claude Debussy (1862–1918)
I. Pagodes
II. La soirée dans nade
III. Gardens Under the Rain
Three impressionistic miniatures for piano that musically paint exotic moods and natural scenes.
Caprice No. 24 - Niccolò Paganini (1782-1840)
Arranged for tuba by Mateusz Dudek
This famously virtuosic theme has served as the basis for variations by many composers. Mateusz Dudek himself arranged it for tuba. An instrument that didn't exist in Paganini's time lends his music new timbres today. How would Paganini have reacted if he had heard his music played on the tuba?
Overture from "Funny Face" - George Gershwin (1898-1937)
Arranged for tuba and piano by Michał Worek
Funny Face is a musical by George Gershwin from 1927. The overture reflects Gershwin's typical jazz influence and lively melodies. This arrangement is for tuba and piano.
