In their research, Núria Carrillo Erra and Miguel Witzke Pereira examine how the formal and structural elements of viral dances (their gestures, repetition, timing, and spatial patterns) can be identified and understood as a “formula” for success.

Starting from the premise that their formula produces success, the artists seek to study, deconstruct, and explore how these principles might be translated into a theatrical context, testing whether the viral effect could be replicated on stage. The research takes TikTok choreographies seriously — not as lesser forms, but as a phenomenon actively shaping today’s dance landscape. The work interrogates what it means to succeed as a dancer today, the shifting definitions of dance, and the tension between longing to belong to a scene that rather seems rejecting than inviting.

This project emerges from the artists’ own position, negotiating the gap between genuine artistic desire and the performative strategies of survival that the current field demands. The project responds critically to Berlin’s socio-political realities through dance and humour while acknowledging the powerful communicative potential of TikTok, especially as a post-pandemic tool for connection. Through research, experimentation, and performance, Núria and Miguel aim to question and reimagine what it means to “make it” as a dancer today.

reinkommen ("coming in") is ada Studio's latest performance series. It gives young choreographers the opportunity to open their work process, invite the audience to come in and to get into conversation.
