Looking beyond the edge
Beyond its premieres, Grips Theater is exploring further opportunities to develop new artistic projects for dialogue with its audience.
In the 2025/26 season, Grips will collaborate with two artists who, as ARTONAUT*IN / "Artists in Residence," will contribute their perspectives to the GRIPS universe.
Nikita Betekhtin studied at the Moscow State Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) and has lived in Berlin since 2022. As a director, he has, among other things, developed an autobiographical monologue, "Self-Portrait Between Steppe and Forest," with actor Alexej Lochmann (born in Kazakhstan, raised in Hamburg) as part of the "Freiboxen" series at the Deutsches Theater. Funded by the Berlin Senate's "Open-Minded Berlin" fellowship program, we will further explore the principles of autobiographical narrative with him.
Nikita Betekhtin studied at the Moscow State Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) and has lived in Berlin since 2022. Sukini: "Children have rights, and adults aren't always right."
The lyrics of Berlin-based children's musician Sukini explore values such as self-determination and solidarity. With her songs, she aims to encourage dialogue between children and adults, perfectly embodying the GRIPS tradition. She is particularly passionate about examining the power dynamic between adults and children (adultism). Together, we will discover what children want from adults and what adults can learn from children. Director Nikita Betekthin and musician Sukini will expand the GRIPS universe throughout the season.
A first glimpse, and perhaps even a premiere, will be presented on the last weekend of January.
