The exhibition at a glance
Water sports belong to Grünau like the television tower belongs to Berlin-Mitte. Water sports have been practised on the Dahme and Langen See lakes since the 19th century – even though their significance, the society and the regatta grounds have changed repeatedly. Under the title ‘Wasser Sport Grünau’ (Water Sports Grünau), the history of the regatta grounds with their boathouses is presented. The exhibition shows the development of boat building and the diverse club landscape.
Water sports remain inextricably linked to the history of Grünau to this day. The first Berlin sailing regatta took place here in 1868, and rowing clubs built their attractive boathouses along the Dahme River.
Boats, tools, photographs, and historical documents form the basis of an exhibition that provides insights into the eventful history of clubs, technical developments, and political upheavals.
