Theatertreffen 2026 | Drama and Discourse
“Three Times Left is Right” is accurate as a description of a path, but raises questions as a political explanation. In his work of the same name, Julian Hetzel explores a media phenomenon that has even captured the attention of The New York Times. How can an old-school leftist raise children together with a member of the new right in times of polarization?
What makes this so fascinating has a lot to do with the notions of “left” and “right” circulating in the media. That one side means well in many ways but unfortunately goes too far. That the other is simply an opinion that must also be allowed to be expressed. That life in between is supposedly comfortable as the political center.
In conversation with pop theorist Diedrich Diederichsen and former CDU Secretary General Ruprecht Polenz, the focus is not on these usual attempts at explanation, but on the actual questions:
Why right-wing rhetoric is so successful. Why people can usually shirk responsibility for their own right-wing views. And what can be done about it.
