Berlin from the perspective of Ukrainian refugees
With my disposable cameras, 18 Jewish women and children walked through Berlin and documented their view of the city - the city where they saved themselves from today's war in Ukraine. Over 90 photographs and personal texts convey private Berlin moments and pose questions about Jewish visibility in urban space.
The authors' photographic works show their own perspective on their situation, beyond the media images of destruction, suffering and crowds that shape our perception of Ukrainian refugees. They show moments of emotion and surprising beauty and tell of visibility, empowerment and self-homing as strategies of participation in the city.
The users are also invited to participate in the shared cityscape and to contribute personal Berlin moments.
The exhibition takes place in cooperation with Masorti e.V., an association for the promotion of Jewish education and life. The photographs were taken in October 2022, about six months after the authors fled to Berlin.
