Performance · Premiere by Milla Koistinen, Dance On Ensemble
The performance “SWEAT (anthem)“ focuses on the theme of endurance. Defined as the capacity to exert oneself and remain active over long periods, endurance also encompasses resilience, tolerance, persistence and stamina.
Created specifically for the Dance On Ensemble, and four freelance dancers, the piece celebrates the ensemble’s long and compelling careers within a multigenerational cast. “SWEAT (anthem)“ is part of a performance series following the solo “GRIT (for what it’s worth)“. Both pieces explore determination, commitment, effort and endurance, particularly in relation to sports.
The works aim to investigate endurance broadly and touch on the intersection of sports and politics, addressing societal and global challenges, widespread injustices, and depths within the world of sports itself. At the center is the question of how humans — whether as artists, citizens, or parents — can develop and sustain endurance, resilience, and hope in today’s world.
