During Carnival in 1625, Francesca Caccini's opera "La Liberazione di Ruggiero dall’isola d’Alcina" premiered in Florence. It is the earliest known stage work by a woman. The piece revolves around the sorceress Alcina and her dramatic love for the knight Ruggiero.

Katharina Bäuml and Mirella Weingarten staged a semi-staged version of the work at the SPAM Festival 2025 to mark the 400th anniversary of its premiere. Due to its great success, SPAM light presents a revised revival of this production.
