Is there a way to revive a festival through a dance performance? Armin Hokmi and the team answer this question with intelligence and flair in Shiraz. It is almost like watching a sunrise or sunset: over and over again, this captivating work uncovers further nuances for the viewer, revealing a choreographic weave of great poetic finesse, a true choreographic gem.
Shiraz is a choreography for seven dancers, an intricate weave of movement and energy that meet and transform on stage. A dance of rhythms, memories, and imagination. The starting point is the Shiraz Arts Festival (1967–1977), an event that brought together artists from around the world, blending traditions and experimentation. Armin Hokmi revives its spirit, translating its sense of exploration through dance. More than a tribute, Shiraz is a new vision. It explores the connection between dance and place, between gestures and history, between memory and invention. The dancers trace ever-evolving paths, bringing the past onto the stage and reshaping it in the present.
After two years of international performances unanimously acclaimed by critics, professionals, and audiences alike, Shiraz comes home to Berlin for three evenings. Set to the enchanting electro beats of EHSXN and REZA R, Shiraz allures the audience with its sensibility, a piece that brings to the forefront the collective work of remembering and dancing together. A shared act of movement, remembrance, and renewal.
