Photographs by Reiner Slotta (2021–2024).
From 23 January to 5 March 2026, Galerie Grünstraße will present the exhibition Photographs by Reiner Slotta, offering a focused insight into life on the Spree's boats.
Created between 2021 and 2024, Slotta's series of works documents the unique living spaces on the water, situating them within the tension between urban density and fluid surroundings. His photographic approach goes beyond mere documentation; the photographs examine the boats as hybrid spaces marking the boundary between urban structures and natural waterways, raising questions about spatial appropriation and identity in an urban context.
Aesthetically, Slotta employs a deliberate interplay of sharpness and blur, contrasting the static presence of residential objects with the river's perpetual motion. This compositional technique visualises the ambivalent experience of the residents — firmly anchored yet in constant motion — lending the everyday an almost auratic quality that ties in with modernist discourses on photography.
The exhibition therefore sees itself as not only a documentation of contemporary lifestyles in Berlin, but also an artistic reflection on the relationship between documentation, staging and lingering in an accelerated present.
Opening on 22 January 2026).
