Reading Chamisso

Adelbert von Chamisso, writer, researcher and world traveller, was also a poet. A public monument to him was erected in Berlin as early as 1888. He was the third poet, after Schiller and Goethe, to be honoured in this way (Markus Hesselmann).

Schoolchildren learned his poems by heart. But who still knows his texts today?

Schöneberg author Zehra Çırak writes poems, prose miniatures and stories. She was awarded the Adelbert von Chamisso Prize in 2001, having already received the sponsorship award of the same name in 1989.
