A dystopian musical is being staged in a preview performance
On 10 November 2025, the new musical Planet X will celebrate its first public preview at the Heimathafen Neukölln theatre.
Created in collaboration between composer and conductor Uroš Ugarković and musical performer and author Wenonah Wildblood, the work tells the story of a post-catastrophic world in 2096 in which humanity lives underground.
At the heart of the narrative is Skylar Alistair, who becomes a candidate for a new start on the eponymous 'PLANET X' — a place of hope and change — through a state-organised lottery. The musical combines a dystopian vision of the future with themes of conformity, personal integrity, and social progress.
It addresses key contemporary issues, including migration, political radicalisation, social inequality, and the loss of democratic rights. Led by director Franziska Kuropka and musical director Caspar Hachfeld, the artistic team of PLANET X has brought together a cast of renowned performers from the German-speaking musical theatre scene.
This preview is aimed specifically at an expert audience to gather feedback for further development. Earlier workshop formats have already presented the production to an interested audience, including as part of the ‘schreib:maschine’ at the Neuköllner Oper, where its potential as an innovative musical theatre project with social depth was demonstrated.
