Panel discussion
The vascular suture - for which Alexis Carrel was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1912 - is a central element of surgical organ transplantation.
It was only after the immunological hurdles could be overcome that organ transplantation became the treatment of choice for end-stage organ failure. Despite its life-saving potential, this therapy is not available to all patients in Germany, as there is a shortage of organs due to the low willingness to donate.
Together with the Spanish Embassy in Berlin, they would like to explore this topic in greater depth. Based on the different experiences in Spain and Germany - two European countries with very different approaches to organ donation - they want to discuss opportunities, challenges and possible ways to increase the willingness to donate. Experts in organ transplantation from both countries will highlight differences and discuss them with the audience.
